We are deeply sorry to inform that our dear friend and former Association President John Gibbs, died last October 2nd at the age of 80, in Bristol, England. He was there visiting the school where he taught for several years before coming to Mexico.
John Gibbs was born in 1938 in Worthing, West Sussex. He studied Russian at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London. He then read Modern Languages (French and Spanish) at The Queen’s College, Oxford.
In the 1960’s he was Assistant Master in the Modern Language Department at St John’s School in Leatherhead. And then he was Head of Spanish at Clifton College, Bristol. He had been a Mexico City resident and Board Member of Amistad Británico-Mexicana I.A.P. since 1991. In 2006 he was recognized as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire M.B.E. for his services to the local community and UK-Mexico relations.
He was President of Amistad Británico-Mexicana, I.A.P. for two years and in 2012 he became the President of our association. John will be greatly missed by all of our Committee members and especially by the Directing Committee. A memorial service will be offered next Saturday October 21st at Christ Church.
